It was a slow start for our ladies team on Wednesday night and Templogue Synge St got on the score board first. Gradually St. Margarets got more and more into the game. Tutsy was at her very best in goal, saving a penalty, giving confidence to our defence who defended as if their lives depended on it. Chloe, Jasmine and Sophie in the full back line had the measure of their opponents. Sophie marshalled the defence like a lion looking for pray snuffing out attack after attack. The half back line of Nessa, Aisling and Hannah worked their socks off defending when necessary and setting up attacks when they could.
Our midfield partnership of Cara and Lauren, despite the significant height disadvantage to their counterparts, got the upper hand with their tireless running, defending when needed and pushing forward at every opportunity.
Kate at centre half forward led by example tormenting the Templeogue defence time after time. Wing half forwards Beth and Tasha did not show any mercy to their opponents and ran at them at every opportunity. Our full forward line was as solid as ever with Shauna, Skye and Erica operating as the target inside. Skye moved out to the half forward line when Templeogue were in the ascendancy in the second half and won some vital ball to swing the game back in St Margaret’s favour. Rebecca came on in the second half winning some vital ball setting up some good scores. Jackie Martin also came on to make sure we closed out the game. It was only in the last 10 minutes that we kicked on coming out winners, 4-16 to 1-12.
