A nail-biting Shield Final saw our girls go toe-to-toe with a strong Wanderers side β and while the scoreboard didnβt swing our way (just 2 points in it!), the performance was nothing short of heroic.
𧀠Eirinn in goal was a brick wall with reflexes β pulling off some cracking saves to keep the scoreline respectable (and the sideline hearts intact).
π‘οΈ Our full back line of Amanda, Teagan, and Hannah were unreal. Hannah, usually a forward, stepped into defence like sheβd been there all season β pure team spirit. Amanda never stopped grafting, and Teaganβ¦ well, weβre still not sure if she was a back or a forward in the second half. She was everywhere β blocking at one end, scoring at the other. GPS couldnβt keep up.
β‘οΈ Alex and Moya were a mighty duo in the half-back line β up, down, and everywhere in between. Alex caught everything with her sticky hands and definitely had her Weetabixβ¦ she covered every blade of grass like it owed her money.
πͺ Libby, Maci, and Lucy worked their socks off in midfield β no small task on a full-size pitch, playing 12-a-side (and then 11 when Layla was βinjuredβ π). Sophie, Erin Lily, and Layla gave it their all up front, trying to tire out a tough Wanderers defence.
π And then there was Lulu β flying up front with a few high-speed solo runs that had the sideline in awe. Where did that come from?! We want more of that magic, please and thank you.
π Special shoutout to Tahlia from our U12s who came to give a dig out β and did way more than that. Grit, passion, and pure class. Hard to believe sheβs only U12!
A shield final thriller. We didnβt win β but we definitely showed up. ππ
