A nail-biting Shield Final saw our girls go toe-to-toe with a strong Wanderers side โ and while the scoreboard didnโt swing our way (just 2 points in it!), the performance was nothing short of heroic.
๐งค Eirinn in goal was a brick wall with reflexes โ pulling off some cracking saves to keep the scoreline respectable (and the sideline hearts intact).
๐ก๏ธ Our full back line of Amanda, Teagan, and Hannah were unreal. Hannah, usually a forward, stepped into defence like sheโd been there all season โ pure team spirit. Amanda never stopped grafting, and Teaganโฆ well, weโre still not sure if she was a back or a forward in the second half. She was everywhere โ blocking at one end, scoring at the other. GPS couldnโt keep up.
โก๏ธ Alex and Moya were a mighty duo in the half-back line โ up, down, and everywhere in between. Alex caught everything with her sticky hands and definitely had her Weetabixโฆ she covered every blade of grass like it owed her money.
๐ช Libby, Maci, and Lucy worked their socks off in midfield โ no small task on a full-size pitch, playing 12-a-side (and then 11 when Layla was โinjuredโ ๐). Sophie, Erin Lily, and Layla gave it their all up front, trying to tire out a tough Wanderers defence.
๐ And then there was Lulu โ flying up front with a few high-speed solo runs that had the sideline in awe. Where did that come from?! We want more of that magic, please and thank you.
๐ Special shoutout to Tahlia from our U12s who came to give a dig out โ and did way more than that. Grit, passion, and pure class. Hard to believe sheโs only U12!
A shield final thriller. We didnโt win โ but we definitely showed up. ๐๐
